Val

Val - drawn by Kerry

Character created by: VaCKo (Art by Kerry)

Name: Val

Format: Guardian cadet

Apparent chronological age: 15

Gender: Female

Relatives: Cousin, Bob

Physical appearance: Petite but not tiny; slender but not skinny (she eats well but burns off a lot of energy). She has lavender skin, green eyes and shiny golden hair which is constantly escaping from its ponytail. She wears the uniform of a Guardian cadet.

Origins/Background: Val, like Bob, comes from the SuperComputer. She had a normal, happy childhood with her loving (but exhausted) parents. She has no siblings, since her parents felt that she was more than enough. When she didn't seem to mellow down at all as she got older, her parents enrolled her at the Guardian Academy in hopes that it would teach her some discipline and cool her down. It hasn't noticeably worked.

When?: She shows up after season 4.

Personality: Val is the hyperactive child's hyperactive child. Enthusiastic, friendly, and a bit abrupt, she acts far younger than she really is. She is even more impulsive and chaotic than Bob. Younger sprites love her; older sprites like her too, but are left with the feeling of having just been run over by a train. Her energy is not strictly physical, however, and given an interesting mental task she can be surprisingly quiet for long periods while her mind runs amok.

Skills: Besides her apparently inexhaustible energy, Val is nimble, with good aim and an excellent turn of speed. She's also very smart, especially at puzzles and codes (she's at the top of her encryption class), and when something really interests her she can become extremely focused.

Weaknesses/Bad Habits: Most of the time, however, she has an attention span of about a nano. She's not particularly strong and is of little use in hand-to-hand combat. Also, her hyperactivity and general intensity can make her come off as at best tiring and at worst a bit obnoxious..

Likes: Music, puzzles, bikes, shopping, cars, circuit racing, zipboarding... just about everything, really.

Dislikes: The prospect of having to grow up; asparagus.

Catchphrases: No particular catchphrases, but comes up with lots of nicknames (for instance, she persistently addresses Bob as 'Brown-Eyes').

Cast relationships:

Bob: Due to his happy-go-lucky nature, Bob is Val's favourite cousin. He, in turn, loves her very much and enjoys her company, provided that there's another grown-up around to help him. Val exhausts even Bob! He greatly enjoys their correspondence, though.

Dot: Val automatically approves of anyone Bob likes, so of course she's fond of his girlfriend! She is, however, Dot's complete antithesis, and Dot finds Val's unbridled chaos a bit unnerving. She also worries about her effect on Enzo. However, she does find Val's cheerfulness engaging, and she can't help liking anyone that similar to Enzo.

Enzo: Enzo holds Val in awe. She would probably make an excellent future girlfriend for him were it not for the age difference. Val serves as a sort of catalyst, causing Enzo to get into even more mischief than he would on his own.

Matrix: Val tends to like everyone by default, but there's no particular connection here and she prefers the company of his younger alternate self. Matrix finds her very annoying; perhaps her similarity to Little Enzo makes her an uncomfortable reminder of his past. It didn't help that he got stuck babysitting her and Enzo, either. However, he tolerates her presence during target practice, due to her willingness to provide a realistic moving target.

AndrAIa: Andi's bottomless reservoirs of patience serve her in good stead when dealing with Val. She is best able of all the adults to control her. They get on particularly well due to their shared love of both bikes and shopping.

Mouse: Put these two together, and prepare to have your brain melt as the conversation turns to ridiculously complicated encryption methods.

Ray: "Wheeee! Do another barrel roll!" That basically sums it up.
