Jareth Valentine

Character created by: Jareth Balthazar Valentine

Name: Jareth Valentine

Format: User / Virus / Guardian

Apparent chronological age: Early 20's

Gender: Male

Relatives: Dot Matrix, Enzo Matrix (Matrix), Enzo Matrix (Enzo), Electra Prompt, Megabyte, Hexadecimal (deleted), Daemon (deleted), Welman Matrix (deleted), Light Matrix (deleted), Jareth's User family

Physical appearance: Milk-white skin, black mask, glowing green eyes, sharp black fingernails, long black hair. Tall, slim build. Black feathered wings grow from his back. Wears Guardian armor beneath a long black coat.

Origins/Background: Jareth Valentine was a User who found himself transported to Mainframe. Once there, he befriended those who weren't terrified of him and, using a device given to him by Phong, created an Icon for himself by copying the data of a dying Guardian named RAM. Severely injured in the Twin City Crash, he survived by downloading himself into Lore, offspring of Daemon and brother to Megabyte and Hexadecimal. Daemon's loss hasn't bothered him in the slightest, as he was instrumental in her downfall, but Hexadecimal's loss has had a much more profound effect on him.

When?: Alternate Universe

Personality: Easy-going and more than a little reckless, but antisocial and manic-depressive. Tends to fluctuate between his Guardian and Virus components. Intelligent but unfocused, lacking any particular goals other than to have fun. Tends to be sarcastic. Will usually do something if asked, but balks when given orders. Jareth never lies, but between his faulty memory and his tendency to get sidetracked, it's almost never worth questioning him anyway.

Skills: Viral capabilities similar to those of Hexadecimal. Can pick locks and pockets. Possesses a keytool named Shark. Has clairvoyant/prescient capacity, though occurrances of this are few and far between and almost never helpful. Seemingly bottomless coat pockets, usually used for comic relief.

Weaknesses/Bad Habits: Unable to read or count beyond two. Has a terrible memory and, unless given continuous direction, will almost certainly screw something up. Is extremely vulnerable to loud or high-pitched sounds. Very easily distracted by food or shiny objects. Tends to 'find' things from other people's pockets, making him rather unpopular.

Likes: Warm weather, meat, music, candy, Christmas, shiny things, showing off, movies, Hallowe'en, being left alone, the night sky, birds.

Dislikes: Vegetables, chocolate, loud noises, sunlight, bossy or mean people, water, when people shoot at him, Megabyte, water, being bored, cold weather, barbecue sauce, water, and those who rectally transport steel rods.

Catchphrases: "Shark: Chainsaw!" "Shark: Scythe!" "Oops!" Cast relationships

  • Bob: Bob merely tolerates him, so long as he doesn't cause any serious damage.

  • Phong: Phong, Dot, and the others who knew Jareth before he merged with Lore usually get long with him quite well, and are often the only ones who can understand what in the Net he's talking about. Jareth has had very little contact with the rest of the cast, such as Mouse and Ray, as he seems to do his best to avoid personal interaction.

  • Enzo: Enzo seems to like him; Jareth has often stood up for him, but delights in scaring the living hell out of the poor little sprite when Enzo gets on his nerves.

  • Hexadecimal: Jareth gets along extremely well with Hexadecimal; the two have a great deal in common.

  • Matrix: Matrix hates him, obviously. A Virus and a User in one? How could he not?

  • Megabyte: Jareth is very near the top of Megabyte's hit list, as he's stood in his way a few too many times.
